The Mountains Were Calling and I Answered

I was seized with a complete fit of restlessness this weekend. Saturday afternoon rolled around and I knew I had to go or I would go crazy!  I took off for Waterton to see my old roomie Keirstyn and to laugh and forget my troubles. As soon as I passed the park lines the mountains hugged me and welcomed me back. I let out a sigh of relief, I really do belong there.

Mt. Vimy was very happy to see me

We had a great time which included drinks and an awesome rib dinner at Vimy’s and then we headed off for Pincher Creek for a movie. I was having such a great time that by the time I dropped her off at home at 11:30, I decided I didn’t want to leave the park.  So I did what any other rational human being on a tight budget did, I put the back seat down in my car and slept in my car! Ha ha. Keirstyn gave me a throw blanket and toque and I pulled out the foil emergency blanket from my first aid kit I always keep in my car (yes I am that crazy prepared).

My bed Saturday night. Lol

It was one of the best sleeps of my life. I was parked near Cameron Falls and the steady water lulled me to sleep. In the morning I headed off to Pearl’s Cafe for some delicious coffee and was SUPER stoked when Keir told me they have gluten free french bread!! And I would never have guessed it was gluten free, the texture was just the same as regular bread. So tasty!

Ryan and his kids met up with me that morning and we started our day off with the kids first hike to Bears Hump.  It was their first hike and Rocky’s first hike too!

I was very excited to share this hike with these first timers

They did a lot better than I expected but there was a lot of complaining about how boring it was. I kept telling them the top was worth it.

Rocky was pulling like crazy. He just wanted to run up this mountainside.

Unfortunately when we got to the top, they weren’t very impressed! They said the hike up wasn’t worth it and it was okay up there. Kids eh?!?!

How could they not be impressed with this view?

Ryan and Rocky. He really wanted to eat a chipmunk. The dog, not Ryan. Ha!

They did have a blast running down the trail though so I think that made up for it a little.

After the hike, we headed straight for Red Rock Canyon. I was very excited to do a little swimming with them but the June flood have completely changed Red Rock Canyon! I’ll go into it with photos in my next post.

I love this hike! Quick, fairly easy and a view to die for!

HAHAH ya gotta love kids honesty, hey? Sounds like my sister. I totally relate to not wanting to leave the park – the mountains & the tropics are where I feel most authentic and most at home.
