Lethbridge Arts Days 2013

At a business breakfast last Wednesday I was told about Lethbridge Arts Days happening all week and about all the family activities going on this past Saturday. I was super stoked because Ryan had to work and I had his two kids Saturday and was looking for a family fun activity. What surprised me is how at 7 and 8, they were really looking forward to looking at art too!

We started off at CASA which had some beautiful paintings! I should have taken photos of my favourites to share,  I did grab a business card of one of the artists, Jeanne Kollee and on her Facebook page she has some of her paintings! Her Norse mythology themed paintings are so beautiful!

I loved the “Seeing Through It” exhibit that featured several artists and their nature paintings. When I am in a place to buy artwork, I want a mix of funky like Kolee’s AND classical naturescapes.

Casa also had a large canvas for anyone to paint on. So of course we stopped to check it out.

Next we went to the Southern Alberta Art Gallery (SAAG) where they had a great crafts centre! The kids spent probably an hour and a half in there creating all kinds of things, they loved it.

Our final stop of the day was at the Galt Museum. I have been there several times for meetings or to go to the gift shop but I have never been in the Discovery Centre which is AMAZING! It actually makes the history of little old Lethbridge seem cool. The kids had been already on school field trips so they showed me their favourite spots and were ready to go. I think I’ll have to go again alone or with Ryan so I can go through and read all the historic articles and facts.

All in all it was a perfect Lethbridge day!

Side note: You may notice that I haven’t posted many photos of the kids. Because they are my step children and I am not a parent I’m not comfortable posting photos with their faces on a public website like my blog. All photos or recaps will have back views or partial profiles only.

I am not sure how I even stumbled on your blog — but I grew up in Lethbridge. Attended Allan Watson Elementary, Hamilton Jr. HIgh and LCI – (years ago my dad, who is now 90 was the principal there). I was just back there for my mother’s funeral — and it makes my heart happy to see the pictures and to read your stories. Waterton too – it all just makes me happy. So thank you for sharing your life — there are those of us who are strangers but have somehow been drawn in and are loving it.
