Happy National Running Day! I have been enjoying reading my favourite bloggers share why they run and their running journey.
Let me begin by stating;
Once a sprinter, always a sprinter!
I love to run fast. I love giving everything I have to churn those legs and get to where I need to be in 30 seconds or less. I was a short sprinter in high school and college. I trained to go all out for a short amount of time and I loved it.
I tried running cross country my senior of high school and was known as “the hot, slow girl from Cascade High” because I could never run faster than 28 minute 5ks. I didn’t care though because I knew I was a sprinter and would smoke all those top distance athletes in a short race.
But after college if you aren’t going pro, there are no other outlets for a short sprinter. Hence why I have been forced to transition to long distance running which has never been my forte. I have ran 5ks, 10ks, triathlons, and obstacle races because I need to have a competition to motivate me to train.
I really struggle with distance running, I can’t push myself for a long period of time. And it doesn’t matter how much I train I can’t seem to convince my body to go any faster than a 11:00 minute mile.
Here are the reasons I force this sprinter body to run distance:
- I need to be in shape to outrun zombies in the case of an apocalypse
- I need to have a competition to train for and road races are common
- To stay in shape/ look good
- For the social aspect (I enjoy running with my friend Cat)
Wow. That’s really it. I don’t enjoy it and it doesn’t make me happy. I run to train for an apocalypse, competition, to stay in shape, or hang with my running buddy. Ha ha ha!

Why do you run?
Hehehehe, I love this post!! You rock!!! XOXOXO!!!!
Hahahaha nice. I wish I had sprint-y legs! My Olympian bud forced me to last night, though. And now I hurt. 🙂
Did you like it though? I LOVE going all out for a short amount of time. It’s so liberating.
I wish I could run fast! Thats why i run long distance! Haha You’re amazing! You literally look like you are flying in the top picture! Absolutely incredible!
Thanks!! 🙂
This post inspired me to think of why I run… I’ve never actually really thought about it. I may just have to write a post about it too. 🙂 thank you!
You definitely should! I had to laugh because most healthy/fit bloggers I follow said they run because it feels good, it makes them happy, it’s an escape- but not me! I run to avoid zombies and that is it. Ha ha!
Really, I think it’s all about outrunning the zombies… best of luck to both of us 🙂
Exactly! You don’t have to be tough to survive, you just need to be able to outrun everyone else! Ha ha!!
