How to Prepare for a Color Run

The Color Me Rad in Calgary is this Saturday and I sadly won’t be running it. I had signed up last year with my workout buddy Cat but the floods caused them to reschedule on a date that didn’t work for either of us so we transferred our registration to this year and it fell on dragon boat weekend! Argh! But last year I had done some research on how to prepare for a colour run (I was worried about wrecking my blonde hair) and I composed a post about it.

Like my mad photoshop skills? Ha ha ha!

Below is a bunch of various tips that we will be using and you can use for your next Color Run.

Wear Old Shoes

Who wants to  worry about cleaning their shoes? I don’t. Wear an old pair you can toss in the washing machine after and not care.

Protect Your Hair

This one is big for me since they warn people with lighter coloured hair to do some prevention! This includes;

• Oil your hair well on race morning (Try  Coconut oil or olive oil). A good leave in conditioner will do the trick as well.

• Wear a thick scarf or bandanna  (This is what I would do)

Protect Your Eyes

  • Wear sunglasses or goggles to prevent dust from getting in your eye

Protect Your Phone/Camera

These races usually have race photographers so you likely won’t need your phone or camera.

Bring Towels, washcloths, large jugs of water & garbage bags

AFTER THE RUN

• Dust off as much dry powder as you can before you apply any water.

• Dust any loose powder out of your hair. It is not uncommon for hints of some of the color, pink and purple particularly, to stick around for a few washes.

• Wash your Color Run gear separately, with COLD water
