Kettlebells are nothing new to the fitness world. Cross-fitters use them like crazy and most health & fitness bloggers have tried it, except me. I found kettlebells scary. I tried to pick up the “light one” and damn it was heavy. I was not about to lift weight above my head and swing it around me, with my luck it would slip out of my hands and fall on my head.

This is a pretty intimidating piece of equipment!

I thought I would forever shun the kettlebell until I was approached by Bells of Steel to try out a bell with their beginner workouts. Try it out in my home where no one can see me mess up? Yes please! Bells of Steel gives you access to free videos when you purchase a kettlebell from them.

There are four days of beginner workout and on each day you learn one or two skills. Bells of Steel owner, Kaevon hosts the workouts with his girlfriend/business partner Lindsay doing the exercises. In the beginning he gave some important safety tips such as never looks down and always pay attention. You can’t do a kettlebell workout while watching TV; or in my case, your step children chasing a chicken through your yard. I had to put down my kettlebell and pause my workout to watch that one.

Day 1 was super easy. It was mainly about safety and Around the Worlds. The workout was so easy I decided to do Day 2 right after.

Day 2 was harder because it’s when we were introduced to the Swing and darn those were hard! I was pooped after.

On Day 3 it teaches the One Arm Swing and Bottoms Up-. The One Arm gets your heart pounding and those shoulders burning.

On Day 4 he recommended ordering a wrist guard when learning Cleans and that seems like a great idea to me! Ouch. I was banging my wrists pretty bad with the bell until later when he broke it down and showed that you catch it more in the crook of your arm than against your wrist.

Could have used a wrist guard for this one.

Overall, I really liked working with a kettlebell. It was a full body challenge, doesn’t take as long as traditional weights and it really works my core. I have back issues and I noticed I had to really work my entire core the whole time to keep my back protected.

If you want to get started, feel free to buy a Beginner’s package that includes a kettlebell and access to the beginner workouts. You can purchase it directly from Bells of Steel website or through their Amazon pages.

I want to start trying at least one kettle bell workout a week and I think this is the way I will finally get Ryan to start strength training because it’s challenging, fun, and doesn’t take too much time.

I got the "swing" of things. Get it? Ha ha!

I love that your kettlebell is pink! I’ve done some kettlebell workouts but mainly am comfortable with swings and goblet squats. Would love to diversify my kb workouts a little, thanks for the recommendation! I’m going to check this program out!

I know it’s so cute! And it’s weird because apparently the norm is the bigger the kettlebell, the lighter it is. Strange right?

I used to have the exact fear of kettlebells. I would drop the thing and it would fall on my foot or I would swing it too fast and knock myself out.
I almost only use kettlebells to do my see-saw presses now.

Yeah that’s why it’s so important to have a good beginner lesson it was really helpful.
