Fitness is a PART of your life!

Christmas shopping this past weekend (yes I am a last minute shopper) I came upon a poster for a gym in that annoyed the hell out me.

Overlooking the two ladies working out in hoop earrings, the girl working out with her hair down and the insulting fact that it’s a bunch of women on an ellipticals- it was the tag line that bothered me so much.

“Get in a workout. Get on with your life.”

If you have that mindset about working out then you will never stick with any sort of program. Fitness isn’t some torturous thing that needs to be done and over with. Working out is supposed to feel good and be fun and be something you intend to do long term. I am always so thankful that my mum always said that you have to work out regularly for the rest of your life. That it’s not something you do for awhile and then stop, you work out for life.

And yeah, if you’re going to the gym and doing 30 minutes on the elliptical 3 times a week, it’s going to seem like a chore because that is SO BORING! When people ask me how to get into working out I always tell them to find something they enjoy. Whether it’s Zumba, running, kick boxing, ice skating or tennis- you don’t need to do the gym thing you just need to find an activity you enjoy.

So ladies and gentleman, please don’t set a resolution to “get in shape” and run and sign up for a gym membership. Think about what you really enjoy doing. Maybe you should be buying a bike, or signing up for dance classes or joining the local climbing gym. Don’t make fitness something “to get over with” make it something you enjoy and will enjoy in the years to come.
