Introduce yourself 

Hello 🙂  My name is Leanne and I am a mom to three sensational young adults, married to my best friend (celebrating 25 years this April) and co-owner of a business with my spouse.  I homeschooled all three of our children, with the last in grade 12.

I’m a Beachbody Coach, certified in PiYo and Turbo Kick and love to come alongside others in their Health and Fitness journeys by providing online support through small accountability groups.  I recognize that we all need encouragement and support and I personally am lifted up when I see others succeed.  I am also studying for my Sports Nutrition Certification.

Where do you live and what are your winters like?

Born and raised in Ottawa, Canada.  I am blessed to be able to experience all four seasons.  My favourite being the fall.  The winters can be very cold with tons of snow.  As a runner this can make footing a bit of a challenge with outdoor training.  Winter temperatures can vary from 0ºC to -40ºC on some crazy days!

What are your go-to activities? 

RUNNING!  I am passionate about running.  I feel empowered most days when I’m out and training.  Especially during the really cold days of winter or exceptionally hot days of summer.  I also love working out at home with a selection of great dvds that compliment my running to help build strength and flexibility.  I introduced cycling into the mix last summer and recently included snowshoe running this winter.

How do stay motivated in the dark, gloomy winter months to stick to a fitness routine?

I sign up for races.  My 2015 race calendar is already full.  I do not have the luxury of down time when my first race is end of March.  Then my first marathon of the year is end of May and a race continuing every month.  I am accountable to a few friends online and I won’t lie 🙂 so the workout needs to get done.  I also will try and run with friends or my local running group for my longer runs as it makes it more enjoyable.


Do you do any winter activities?

As I mentioned, running.  I run all year long.  I try to keep my workouts outside but will hit the treadmill when necessary.  Snowshoe running is new for me this year but something I plan to continue doing every winter.  I also enjoy getting out for a good hike with the family.

What advice would you give for someone struggling to get up and moving during the winter when hibernation mode sets in?

Most of the time it’s a mind battle.  For myself, I register for a race.  I have to train for it, regardless of how I feel or I will not be prepared.  Even when I have NO desire to train, I get dressed.  I often tell myself to just start, if I still hate it in 10min., then I can pack it in.  Usually by then I’m already committed and will get it done.  Occasionally, I may still be struggling, but I tell myself just one more km.  then maybe do half of what I set out to do once I get to the halfway mark I’m to stubborn to not finish the intended workout.  I’ve also figured out, I’ve never regretted it 🙂
