Winter Fit is a series where I interview Canadian fitness/outdoors bloggers and get a first hand look into how they stay fit and motivated during the long cold winter months.

Today, we’ll be talking to Carmy D from Carmyy. Carmy is a fellow Sweat Pink Ambassador and loves to run!

Introduce yourself 

I’m Carmy, a Toronto based running blogger over at carmyy.com

Where do you live and what are your winters like?

I live in Toronto and last year we had a polar vortex.  It was crazy!

What are your go-to activities? 

What are your go-to activities?

My go to activity is running.  I’m not a big fan of cross training as I much rather be running!

How do stay motivated in the dark, gloomy winter months to stick to a fitness routine?

I try my best to plan out my work outs – having it down in writing and seeing it in front of me makes me more likely to go out and run.  It also helps that after buying a ton of reflective stuff for winter like new headlamps really helps me stick to my routine since I feel more obliged to work out after some shopping.

Do you do any winter activities?

No.

Do you have a healthy comfort food recipe to share?

Sloppy Joes!  I LOVE sloppy joes. I usually buy a pack of beef, throw it into a non-stick pan, add a couple pinches of garlic powder, salt, pepper, brown sugar, onion, and ketchup/mustard.  I rarely measure when making sloppy joe and taste as I go as sometimes I want it more “sloppy” than others (more ketchup/mustard) and other times I want it a bit more sweet (more brown sugar).

What advice would you give for someone struggling to get up and moving during the winter when hibernation mode sets in?

You’re going to feel better afterwards.  Usually getting up and moving will improve my mood as the dark/gloomy weather always makes me feel a little down.  Just remember that you’ve made a commitment to your body and only you can follow through with it!
