I’m Going to be a PE Teacher!

Ladies and Gents- it’s official- I am going to be a PE Teacher! My resignation has been filed, my admission accepted,  and classes registered for September. I will finally be pursuing my dream career at the University of Lethbridge  this fall!

Long time readers have likely read my long time dream of being a PE teacher and coach. I talk about it in posts like 10 Things You Don’t Know About Me and Need to Find my Passion.

On my 30th birthday I posted a long insightful post called Older But Not Wiser where I wrote about how life at 30 was different than what I expected. I said “I want to spend my 30s breaking out of the mould and really figuring out who I am, what I’m passionate about, and appreciating each day for what it has to offer.”

I am kicking off my 30s by pursuing a job I am passionate about. I have been volunteer coaching teenage girls for five years for crying out loud! Not many people would  enjoy that but I love it!

Going to miss this team

I have loved helping coach the Magrath High School cheer squad

I don’t think I have talked much about my new house yet (whoops) but that was the final push into making this dream a reality.  When a realtor knocked on our door and said someone wanted to buy our large and expensive house and we were able to downsize to a little 2 bedroom cottage, I knew that this was the time to pursue my dream.

Immediately after sending my resignation to HR, she came in and closed the door and said she couldn’t think of a person better suited for the job. She talked about how at a work event at the YMCA, I was able to find an activity for each kid, include them all and get them all playing and having fun. She said I was made for the job and she was happy that I was going to be pursuing it.

“I thank you again for the challenges and opportunities I encountered in my position but I have to follow my passion and starting a competitive high school track team, and instilling a love of healthy living and physical fitness in children and teenagers is what I have always dreamed of doing.”

This quote from my resignation letter says it all.

Sports is my passion and I love coaching teenagers

It’s not going to be easy. I have a lot of courses ahead of me and it’s going to be very strange not having a pay check to depend on, but it will all be worth it in the long run.
