Canadian Olympians I’ll be Watching at Rio

I am a self proclaimed Olympic nerd! As a child I dreamed of the Olympics first in gymnastics, then in figure skating. Through high school and university I hoped to sprint but alas, I’m not that talented of an athlete though I tried really hard. As an adult now, I live through others and will be pretty glued to the TV watching as many sports in Rio as I can.

Watch this promo and tell me you don’t get chills.

There are a couple Canadian athletes I have a particular interest in and thought I would share with you.

Andre De Grasse- Athletics

You know I’m all about track and I’ve enjoyed following Andre on Twitter for the last year after he took home gold in the 100m & 200m at the 2015 Pan American Games. I’m really excited to watch him run!

Adam van Koeverden- Kayak

How could I not watch my old kayak instructor? Ha ha! It’s incredible because Rio makes Adam’s fifth Olympic games!

I was taught to kayak by an Oympian, no big deal! Ha ha ha!

Danielle Lappage- Wrestling

As many of you know, my little brother has been wrestling for years which helped me develop an interest in the sport, the original Olympic sport that was almost taken out of the Games! I’ll be cheering for Danielle (an Alberta native) as she grapples with women from around the world.

Heather Steacy- Athletics

I love a hometown athlete and thrower Heather is a former Pronghorn who lives and trains in Lethbridge. This is her second Olympics but she didn’t do so hot in last year’s Pan Am games so I’m hoping she has a killer performance in Rio!

Also cheering for….. Allyson Felix- Athletics

I’m a dual citizen so I’m allowed to cheer for the U.S. athletes too. One in particular I have been following since I was in high school is Allyson Felix! A year younger than I, I followed her high school career smashing records. This year is her fourth Olympic games which is such an accomplishment for a short sprinter.

Love it and that is hilarious Adam was your kayak instructor! You must be pro! 😉

My cousin Diana is on the women’s soccer team so I will definitely be cheering them on! I’m pretty inspired by so many of the athletes but do want to watch all the running.

Ha ha! Not really, he gave me two days of lessons for a TV show and I was pretty star struck the entire time. That’s so awesome to have family in Rio! I’ll have to catch a soccer game!
