Hello! I’m back! You may have noticed a sad lack of Friday Fitness posts this month and it’s not because I haven’t been doing anything, work has just been kicking my ass and getting out the few hiking recaps posts was all I could must this  last month. But now it’s September, school is about to start up again and I have to get a good workout routine in place once I know my class schedule, which I won’t until the day before classes! Argh!

Friday- Nothing 

Saturday- 5 mile run


I wanted to keep my Saturdays for long run days but as the same time I REALLY want to learn how to speed up my mile time. So armed with my TomTom I set a goal to keep my pace at 11 minutes/mile. The problem is my natural slogging pace is 12 min/mile but when I think about going fast, the sprinter in me kicks in and I’ll look down and be doing an 8 min/mile. That lasts for like 30 seconds to a minute and then I’m winded and I have to walk. In the long run, I ran my 5 miles in an average of 12 min/mile. Urgh. So frustrating. I have to find a good interval training program to help me teach my body how to go faster but not TOO fast.

Sunday- Hike- Goat Lake


Had a GREAT day of hiking and some scrambling with my friend Samara! Goat Lake is a pretty steep incline so my pulled glute was crying.

Monday- Nothing

Tuesday- Softball

It’s fall ball season and I’m glad we’re playing since I missed regular season due to a summer class. I’m not able to sprint like I want, again with this glute injury so it’s giving me a chance to work on my batting so that I don’t have to run so hard for first.

Wednesday- Softball

Thursday- Hiking & paddle boarding

I love adventure days with the girls! We hiked to Crandell Lake (4km roundtrip) and did some paddle boarding in Emerald Bay on Waterton Lake. A full day of activity like that is my favourite kind of workout!

As I said, I need to map out my workout schedule for the fall and set some new fitness goals.

Any tips for speeding up my mile time?
