My title just cracks me up!

I don’t know what it is about Reading Week, but I love to overdo it during what should be a relaxing break. I took on too much in terms of work, school, and prepping for my student teaching. Basically, ever since last Saturday I have been hunched over a computer from about 8am- 9pm. Every. Day. And we all know how much I HATE sitting all day!

Needless to say, this has not been a good week workout wise. This is what my week looked like:

Thursday- Curling

Friday- Nothing

Saturday- Easy 30 minute run

Sunday– Thursday- Nothing

One run! All I squeezed in was one lousy easy run! I kept thinking that if I got enough work done in a day than  I would have time the next for a workout. I kept telling myself that every single day. Now here I am on Friday, still not done all my work yet and my back is killing me.

My Lovely Lady Hunch

On Wednesday night, my back was so tight in a forward slouch position that I stuck a rolled up yoga mat under my spine and slept like that for awhile to open up my chest and back. Even back in my desk jockey days I didn’t sit in front of a computer for 10-12 hours a day and my back is screaming at me to knock it off.

I know regular yoga would really help, but if I’m too busy to stand up and walk, I’m too busy to get some yoga in amiright?

But my posture is so bad! I’m going to have the granny hump when I’m 40 versus 80 if I don’t straighten up.

I’ve collected a few tips to improve your posture and combat the negative effects of sitting all day. Thank goodness in one more week I’ll be student teaching physical education courses so I’ll only be sitting in the evenings! Woot! Woot!

Strap On

(Sorry! I couldn’t resist a little raunchy humour.) I remembered reading a posture tip from Alyssa Coleman Wellness about using your yoga straps to create a brace. I went on Pinterest and found this photo how to from Camille Styles.

Brace Yourself

Along the same lines as the strap, you can buy braces to help correct your posture for only $30-$50 online! If I were still working a full time desk job, I would be buying this in a hurry! I’d probably wear it under my clothes, but man this would have REALLY helped me this week!


Hold Your Balls

Why am I so cheeky today? This is a posture trick I discovered by accident while rolling out my back. If you take a ball and put it at the top of your chair and hold it in place with your back, it forces you to sit back and not hunch over. The ball will roll down if you start to hunch bringing awareness to your posture!

Stretch damn it!

Stretching throughout the day would make such a difference. If I could just tear my eyeballs away from work once every hour and do some stretching that would really help keep the hunch away.
