PowerBar ProteinPlus Giveaway!

When I first began weight lifting and running in 1999, the old school PowerBar’s were my go to protein bar. I used to pack them with me to track meets to snack on before a race. But since then, so many different protein bars have flooded the market, but the quality among them really varies don’t you think?

This past September, PowerBar added two new flavours to their ProteinPlus range-Creamy Chocolate Peanut Butter and Lemon Poppy Seed and they sent me samples to try out and review and are giving away a box to one of my readers!

Low Sugar

These bars are very low in sugar with only 2-3 grams of sugar per bar, and like all ProteinPlus bars they are also Gluten Free. If you’re familiar with protein bars you know some can boast as much sugar as a chocolate bar!

Loads of Protein

This new line contains 20 grams of protein and 5 grams of fibre. They aren’t completely dairy free though. They use three different types of protein (Soy Protein Isolate, Calcium Caseinate, and Whey Protein Isolate) because different proteins digest at different rates; this should help with sustained energy instead of all at once.

What about the dairy? I was a little worried about the whey protein as that is protein derived from dairy and full whey protein has been known to make me sick to my stomach. But I didn’t have any stomach problems which means both those boxes of PowerBars are all mine! YES!

Taste & Texture

Lemon Poppy Seed – Holy crap! This bar straight up tasted like an actual piece of cake. The texture was soft and chewy. The last few bites were a little dry though not chalky.

Creamy Peanut Butter– This bar tasted good and had good texture but it didn’t blow my mind like the poppy seed. I think that’s because chocolate peanut butter is a very popular protein bar. Like the other bar, the last few bites were a little dry though not chalky. I was able to scarf this bar in the halls between classes and I didn’t need a bottle of water to choke it down (pretty good for a protein bar).

PowerBar wants to give one lucky (Canadian) Better LIVIN winner a box of each flavour of their very own! The giveaway will run until next Monday, March 27- so enter today! You must be a Canadian resident to win, sorry my American friends.

It is crazy how many protien bars are out there. And the one thing that I always check is the sugar, some protien bars are worse then chocolate bars!!
