Friday Fitness- Losing Your Car Keys

Happy Friday everyone! This is going to be a short post because Ryan and I have to take off for North Dakota for Ben’s graduation soon. That’s right Fargo- the Tynan’s are descending upon you- mwuah ha ha ha! I love going to new places and though Fargo doesn’t sound overly exciting, at least it’s new!

THANK YOU to all the great advice I got on this blog and social media after last week’s post! I decided just to be a wimp and not strength train until my half is over but next training cycle, I have some good ideas for incorporating weight training into my routine without killing my legs.

Ok. Runners- what do you do with your car keys? I have various methods depending on where I am. If I’m in the middle of nowhere, I’ll stick them on a tire or in my gas tank but when I’m in the city I bring it with me.

I have a variety of methods including;

  • tying it on the strings of my pants but then it jiggles against my crouch area which is weird
  • tying it onto my shoelace and then tucking it in, but I have my laces have come loose and I’ve lost the key before without noticing
  • just sticking it in those little pockets activewear often has

The latte is what I did on my hill stride run this week and lo and behold I got to my car and the little pocket was empty. I had to run back down tat super steep coulee hill and scan the ground for my key. Luckily, I found it but all I could think is that there has GOT to be a better way! I wish I had a car with a number pad code to unlock it, but I don’t so what are some of my other options.

I don’t dig the idea of a sweaty flip belt around my waist every time, I only carry water and other items on me for slow long runs.

Runners- What do you do with your keys when you run? If it’s top secret and you don’t want people to know, shoot me an email at betterlivinblog@gmail.com. 🙂

Ok- let’s run through my week so I can get out of here.

Saturday/Sunday– Much needed rest

Monday- Best 40 minute run of my life & hot yoga

Yes- you read that right! I had the greatest morning run of my life! After my disastrous long run in the mountains I took two days off from doing anything. And I came out of the gates flying Monday morning. My average pace if I don’t look is at about 11:30/mile now but during this run it varied between 9-10 min/miles! I couldn’t believe it! I kept waiting to hit the wall or run out of breath or my legs to get heavy but I just kept going. I talked about that awesome run to anyone who would listen the rest of the day- ha ha!

I finally made it out to hot yoga for some Yang & Yin where it became very clear that I have been neglecting my flexibility SO BAD! I struggle with back flexibility from years of hunching over a computer and some of those back opening exercises were a real struggle.

Tuesday- Nothing

Wednesday- Hill strides & softball

I did a mile warm up and then 3 X 60 second hill strides up that coulee path at U of L. Anyone who has ever gone up that thing knows how insanely steep it is. I felt awesome until I was done and realized I lost my keys. But I guess that extra uphill climb was good for me.

I played two games of softball Wednesday and had Ryan snap a photo of my awesome new jersey number. If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve seen it already. I’ve been asking for this number for years but all my captains think it’s too weird. This yer, my Captain was nice and let me embrace my weirdness! I’m pie! Ha ha!

Thursday- 50 minute walk

I had a 45-60 minute cross training session booked and I wanted to ride my bike but I haven’t pulled any of them out of storage yet and made sure they’re road worthy. I can’t risk getting stuck on the side of the road somewhere the morning of a school day so instead I walked around campus which was really quite enjoyable.

Lovely day for a walk. I think dandelions are pretty.

How was your week?

Are you LOVING this weather or what?

Ok- and now for a 13 hour drive to Fargo! Tally-ho!

I will either tie it into my shoe or toss it in a belt. If all else fails, I’ve just ran holding my key. My girlfriend always throws her keys under her car which baffles me.

Does she crawl under to get them after? Because that sounds better than losing my keys! Ha ha ha
