50 Ways to Stay Well #20- Hiking

Readers know that this week’s way to stay well is one that is near and dear to my heart! As it is, I’m up early to hit the mountains with a girlfriend today!

We here in Lethbridge are fortunate to have the coulee trail network within our city as well as the Rocky Mountains a mere 1.5 hours away from us and it’s time to take advantage.

Too many people shy away from hiking because they think they aren’t in good enough shape. They conjure up images of steep, rocky ascents to the top of a mountain but hiking doesn’t have to be difficult. There are so many beginner trails that have little climbing but offer all the views and fresh air of the harder hikes.

One of my favourite hikes is Goat Haunt in Waterton. It’s long but flat with almost no hills and the scenery is breathtaking.

Hiking improves your cardiovascular system and engages your core and studies show that spending time in green space can ease stress.

Your challenge this week is to make plans to hit the trails!
