Be Summer Smart

Summer is right around the corner and with the warm weather and I’m already sporting what I like to call my clown nose. You see, I have super sensitive eyes to light and sunglasses are an absolute MUST if I’m outside. This means that the bridge of my nose and under eyes are protected from the sun and results in the bridge of my nose being lighter that the rest. Though it drives me crazy, it’s worth it to get outside as much as possible!

Here are some of the things I do to stay summer smart:

Enjoy the sun – responsibly!

This is an absolute non negotiable in my life. I already wear a daily moisturizer with spf every single day all year round. But in the summer I keep sunscreen in every bag, in my car, anywhere so there is no excuse to not have it on hand. Finding your right sunscreen can be challenging, but the new Coppertone ClearlySheer Whipped leaves my skin feeling soft and moisturized. The rich and creamy foam absorbs quickly while protecting me from the sun’s harmful rays.

Treat your seasonal allergies

I am lucky not to have allergies but my sister and mom do and I know it can keep them from really enjoying the warmer days. When they were up here visiting, I gave them Aerius,  a multi-symptom 24-hour relief that is non-drowsy.

Don’t sweat it off

I LOVE working out in the summer. The sunshine, the birds singing, it all feels so good, much better than being cooped up in the gym. For long runs, I have to make sure I use sweat proof sunscreen that won’t wash away halfway through my workout.  The Coppertone Sport Sunscreen Stick has you covered. It stays on strong when you sweat.

Don’t overdo it

This is one I struggle with! We all want to make the most of the beautiful weather but knowing your limits and taking appropriate breaks is important to enjoy the summer responsibly. Monitor your breathing and heat levels. If your body is telling you to rest and cool down, make sure you listen. Have you had heat stroke before? I’ve had it once and never want to experience something that horrible again!

The common theme of this post! SUNSCREEN! SUNSCREEN! SUNSCREEN! Please don’t “get burned so it will turn into a tan.” I wear SPF 50 when I’m outside and I still get a tan during the summer. It takes longer but you are avoiding wrinkles and potential skin cancer!
