Friday Fitness- Can I be a 5 a.m. morning person?

During the last couple weeks I have been busy teaching like crazy and I’m noticing a major drop in my workouts. When I get home, I like to go on an easy walk with the baby and then play on the living room floor. I’m starting to think that if I want to get back onto a consistent running schedule, it’s going to have to be in the mornings. But I already need to be up at 6a.m. to get to work on time, so can I train myself to get up at 5 a.m.?

Right now my body is in the perfect rhythm; in bed at 9-9:30 p.m. and dead asleep within 15 minutes. I get up once or twice a night to fix TyTy a bottle, bet otherwise, I sleep well until 6 a.m. and wake refreshed and ready for the day. If I try to bump that wake up time to 5a.m., will I make it? Or will I need to go to bed at 8 p.m., which is crazy considering the baby goes down at 7p.m. and that’s when I like to get all my tidying and prepping for the next day finished.

I also struggle with trying to get in that habit because while I sub a lot, I don’t teach every single day. And on those days, I’m free to hit the gym or take long walks, whatever I choose, but I don’t know if it’s a day off until about 6:30 or 7 a.m. that morning.

Working mama’s- what have you worked out? How have you fit regular workouts in your schedules?

Anyway, as I get used to this completely different lifestyle, let’s look at this week. One thing I have really been working on is making sure I walk or ride my bike when running errands in my small town. I’ve been so inspired by the book There’s No Such Thing as Bad Weather, that I’m going to resist the urge to drive around this small town. I mean, the end of “downtown” is a mere half mile from my front door- I shouldn’t be driving to pick up the mail.

Friday- 50 minute spin and quick one mile bike ride

I didn’t work Friday and was able to hit spin class. I also ran to the grocery store on my bike for dinner and risked a fall to snap a lovely fall biking photo.

Saturday & Sunday- Nothing

Weekends are usually my most active days but a junior high volleyball tournament ate my Saturday and errands and the Seahawks game ate my Sunday.

Watching volleyball

Monday- 1 mile walking errands

I spent most of Monday doing all the deep cleaning I do on the weekends. I did get out with TyTy to hit the library and post office though.

Tuesday- 6.13 mile walk

Tuesday was the ideal fall day! It was about 16C and the leaves were absolutely stunning! I went out on an aimless walk with TyTy and covered 6 miles in three hours. We stopped at a creek and sat watching the water go by, I took a ton of pictures, and we watched deer. It was the perfect little local outing.

Wednesday- Lots of soccer and 30 minute walk

Wednesday rocked! I subbed a P.E. class and it was outside playing soccer- four periods of it!  I had a blast, sweated my butt off, and reached 10,000 steps before noon.

I then met up with Rachelle for a fall walk and catch up session.

Thursday- Games in PE

I subbed PE again, but due to rain we had to stay inside. Bummer but we still got in some fun games like GaGa ball and scooter soccer.

And just like that another week is gone.

Anyone know of any late November/early December local races? Maybe putting a race on my calendar will help motivate me to train. Maybe.
