Being pregnant is an exciting time, but it can also be stressful. So what better time to jet set on a relaxing holiday before your new bundle of joy arrives? So long as you have no reported pregnancy-related complications, there’s no reason you can’t get away.

Here are some of the friendliest destinations to visit while pregnant.

Many prefer to stay closer to home during the first trimester when they may be suffering from morning sickness, making London an excellent destination. Visit midweek outside of school holidays and you won’t have to compete with the crowds. There are plenty of historic houses, museums and art galleries in the city centre but also further out, such as Hampton Court Palace, Tate Britain and the Victoria and Albert Museum. Take it easy on a sightseeing bus or just relax in one of the many hotels and spas. You can also spend your time watching some of the latest theatre or comedy shows.

Still close to home but exotic enough to feel like you’ve had a ‘real’ holiday, Iceland is a great destination for a pregnancy holiday. If you’re experiencing hot flushes, then a trip to Iceland will help cool you down, while the fresh air will calm and nourish you. Geothermal springs such as The Blue Lagoon are renowned for their soothing minerals which are beneficial to the skin. The pace of life is slow, ideal if you need some time to stop and think, with plenty of rugged landscape and waterfalls to soothe any stresses.

USA & Canada

Our cousins across the pond are renowned for being very accommodating when it comes to pregnant travellers, which makes them great destinations for a babymoon in your second trimester. In Canada and the most northern US states, such as Vermont and Maine, you can enjoy stunning mountain views, fresh air and tranquil lakes, either on foot, which is great exercise while pregnant, or from the comfort of a train tour. New York and Boston are great options for a culture fix, or how about taking a load off and relaxing on one of the finest beaches in the world on South Beach, Miami, or Waikiki Beach, Hawaii? For a more tailored experience, Topnotch Resort and Spa is recommended as a must-see for any pregnant traveller looking to feel pampered.

Tourism is one of the leading industries in Seychelles and the good news for pregnant women is that it is Zika-free. The island group enjoys tropical temperatures, making it ideal for relaxing. If you love nature, you can explore the exceptional rock formations and a variety of unique wildlife and birds. Then relax in one of the modern beach hotels with warm blue waters, ideal for swimming. Mahe Island, which boasts beautiful beaches with mountains rising from the sea, is the main and the largest Island in Seychelles, and you can spend your days reclining on their beautiful beach.

Skip the long haul and fly to Cyprus in just four hours. Known for its warm waters and tranquil setting, Cyprus is the perfect holiday destination for sun, sea and sand when pregnant. But on top of its more than 60 Blue Flag beaches and plethora of shops and restaurants, the island is home to secluded villages and stunning mountain views. So whether you want to get out there or hide away, Cyprus has an option to suit.

Pregnancy brings with it all kinds of stresses, so a holiday can be the perfect way to unwind. But wherever you decide to visit, ensure you check with your doctor and look up any current travel health advice about the destination. You’ll also want to make sure you base yourself close to a hospital and that you have numbers for local taxi firms in your phone.
