After a fabulous weekend in Fernie with Ryan and the dogs, I found myself with a free day on Monday (Victoria Day).
I started the day off with my workout, sprints on the track followed by weights.
With the workout done I came home and toyed with the idea of staying home to do some weeding and household cleaning. I realized that I would spend the rest of my working week regretting it if I didn’t use that precious day off to get outside and get active so I headed to Waterton.
I stopped at Pearl’s Cafe to grab my friend Keirstyn for a quick visit but the place was crazy busy so instead I headed out to rent a paddle board. Blakiston & Co. is located in the garage behind Crandell Mountain Lodge by the 3 way stop when you first arrive at the townsite. They carry Four Oceans SUP and rental rates start at $25/hour. They also have kayaks and lessons.
The water was a little choppy but nothing compared to the open ocean so I enjoyed my hour on the bay by myself paddling around. I did almost lose it when I was turning around and a wake got under my board. Falling in would have sucked, especially when I turned down the wetsuit.

After paddling around, I took my tired body to The Taco Bar for tacos with Keirstyn. OMG these tacos were amazing! Mexican is one of my favourite foods since it’s easy to eat gluten/dairy free. I ordered the pork tacos (5 of them) along with chips and salsa and man oh man was I in heaven!

I said goodbye to Keirstyn and headed out of the park. It was about 5:30 by then and I was tired and debating whether to go mountain biking on the Wishbone trail like I originally had planned. I debated right up until the turn off and then I told myself I would go and if I wasn’t feeling it after the first mile I could turn around.

Off I went and I noticed how different the scenery was after Parks Canada prescribed burn of the area. Most of the trees didn’t have leaves which was kind of sad.

I did enjoy peddling through the spring run off and letting the muddy water splash up all over me. I don’t know what it is, but I love getting dirty.
I had just reached the meadow (1.8 miles in) when I relaized I was gassed! I had already done a ton of physical activity and though I wanted to bike the whole trail, I knew I didn’t have a lot left in me so I opted to turn around and go back.

I’ll have to hit up Wishbone again when I’m fresh!
So when people ask me “what would you do if you were rich and didn’t have to work?” I would answer do exactly what I did on Monday. It was the perfect day!

What would you do if you were rich and didn’t have to work?Â
What an awesome day off! I still can’t believe I haven’t been to Waterton. It’s on my summer bucket list! I would love to head out and do some hikes and some SUP!!
If I was rich, and didn’t have to work, I would spent one week, a month, travelling the world and running a race in every place I visited. Of course, London would come along for the adventure.
That would be awesome! And smart to choose a week out of the month so you can spend the other 3 weeks relaxing and preparing for your next trip!
I’ll let you know when I’m planning my next Waterton excursion!
I’m with ya – I’d wake up early every morning and enjoy a leisurely breakfast before heading out on a mountain adventure. Hiking, kayaking, paddleboarding, mountain biking, trail running – that’s all I want and need to be happy!
I’d also spend my summers in the Rockies and winters in the tropics. I don’t like snow!
Yes! Winter’s in Hawaii sound magical! It’s funny because I like snow and snow sports but the older I get, the shorter I want winter. ha ha!
