Hiking with kids takes patience (which I don’t have)

I think my title says it all! I see all these badass parents whose kids come with them everywhere; kayaking, climbing, back country camping, living out of a van and I have to say kudos to you! Have you followed Rockieschick22 on Instagram? Her daughter must be about 6 or 7 and is a peak bagging little badass! Check out…

November Hike to Crandell Lake

I knew that I needed some serious mountain time this past weekend so I got Ryan on board to hit Waterton and do a little snow chasing. Little did I know, there was no snow in Waterton this weekend and it was so crazy warm you would think it was April and not mid-November. I love/hate it because a late…

Winter Hike Up Bears Hump

This past weekend I was finally able to drag Ryan on a hike! Its funny how I couldn’t get him to come all summer when the weather was nice but in -6C and snow he was willing.  I think he just felt obligated to go because I bought him  a new winter coat and boots JUST for winter adventures. Driving into…

Apollo’s First Hike, Wishbone Trail

Yesterday I took Apollo on his first hike in Waterton. Because he is only about 8 weeks old I chose to hike the Wishbone Trail because it’s flat with gorgeous views. To get to Wishbone you have to turn onto Highway 6 before the Park Entrance as if you are going to the Chief Mountain Border Crossing. About 400 metres…

Fall Hike to Bertha Falls

Sunday was my last day of working at Pearl’s Cafe in Waterton and after my shift I took my tired self out for a short  hike. I tweaked my back spotting cheerleaders on Saturday so I wanted an easy hike with nice views and little effort, which is Bertha Falls hands down. This 3.36 mile hike took me about an hour…

Lineham Falls- You Can Look, But You Can’t Touch

I am spending my Sundays this month working at Pearl’s Cafe in Waterton. My friend Keirstyn is the manager and was short staffed for the shoulder season and asked if I could spare any time to help. The best part is that set schedule so that I am off by noon for hiking time! I decided to hike Lineham again (I…

Goat Lake Hike, Waterton

Goat Lake Advanced Hike Distance- 9.04 miles Time- 3:45 (this included our rest at the top) Elevation gain – 530 m (1,750 ft) Sunday was a typical lazy Sunday, I slept in until 9 am and sipped coffee all morning while reading a book. When Ryan announced that he was going to lay down and it was only noon, I…

Winter Hike to Bertha Falls in Waterton

The mountains haven’t been just calling- they have been demanding my presence! And when Ryan told me he was going to work this Monday, a holiday, I packed up Rocky and headed to the Rockies. I love hiking in the winter because the trails are virtually deserted so I let Rocky off his leash. This dog is SUCH a December…

Four Hikes in One Day

I had a perfect day in Waterton this Saturday. My workout buddy Catherine and I made plans to go hiking with our babies (hers is human, mine is furry). We were joined by her husband and another couple (my sibling in-laws actually) and their baby. Catherine and I got to the park first and she had the great idea to…

The Ever Changing Red Rock Canyon

This weekend was another Waterton Adventure weekend and my fitness buddy Catherine and I went through Red Rock Canyon. If you recall, a few weeks ago I talked about how much the canyon was changed;  there was no water, and grey shale covered the bottom of the canyon hiding the red rock. Well, that’s changed again!! Last week, I saw…

Kayaking Fun in Waterton

I have been dying to get back in a kayak since being taught by Olympic medalist kayaker Adam van Koeverden. Over the long weekend, Ryan and I borrowed my uncle’s kayaks with plans to kayak down Waterton Lake and camp at the back country camping area on the border. It seemed like a clear enough day until we got to the…

Floods Have Changed Red Rock Canyon

I was really looking forward to taking Ryan’s kids to Red Rock Canyon to explore and play and swim. Whenever I have family in town, Red Rock is a must-hit as it is a fun and very unique place. But the June floods have changed this iconic Waterton tourist spot. The first thing you notice is that there is little…

The Mountains Were Calling and I Answered

I was seized with a complete fit of restlessness this weekend. Saturday afternoon rolled around and I knew I had to go or I would go crazy!  I took off for Waterton to see my old roomie Keirstyn and to laugh and forget my troubles. As soon as I passed the park lines the mountains hugged me and welcomed me…

Pre-Wedding Waterton Fun with My Sister

The morning of my wedding my sister and I got up early to shoot scenery around the park for my wedding video (I love video editing). Never mind a huge snow storm rolled in about three hours later and it wasn’t remotely this sunny out for the actual wedding. We still had a lot of fun. 🙂 I’m getting my…

Snow Shoeing in Waterton December 2012

I had a half day from work on Friday so of course I made plans to get outside and to the mountains for snow shoeing. I had originally planned to go up to Bertha Falls but when I pulled in there was so little snow that I opted to go on the tried and true trail to Cameron Lake. I…

Baby’s First Hike

No, not my baby. Ha ha! On Saturday, my friend Catie and I went to Waterton with her baby Olive for a hike. We hiked to lower Bertha Falls and then went down to Bertha Bay to enjoy the beautiful scenery there. We calculated we did about 8.2km that day. I love having my hiking buddy back (and a new one!)
