Ok my lovely readers- I HAVE to buckle down and finally share the details of my AMAZING trip to the 2XU Ultimate Performance Training Camp in Hermosa Beach, California last week. It looks like I have about 6-7 posts coming! Recaps of the days and then specific area focused topics we talked about such as sleep, alignment, etc. I’m hoping over the course of the next couple week as I write, the company will share more professional photos and video of the experience for me to share.
I figured because I was going to be talking about the same people a lot that it would be good to give an intro so in future posts you know who I’m talking about!
Everyone asks how I found out about this amazing opportunity- Twitter of course! In fact, I wasn’t going to enter because I didn’t think I was in good enough shape to even be considered. I shared it on my account and it was one of my followers that told me I had nothing to lose by trying and sure enough, I won! I remember when I got the email I started shaking with excitement and didn’t stop for about two hours.
What was really cool is that the other winner from Canada was from Calgary so we got to fly together. Bonnie Lang is a personal trainer and the nicest most open hearted person! If I lived in Calgary, she would be my personal trainer without a doubt! Not only because she’s nice, but she practises what she preaches and is truly bad ass (I’ll go into more later).
The Places
Beach House Hotel
2XU put us up at the Beach House Hotel in Hermosa and it was one of the nicest hotels I’ve ever stayed in. Scratch that- it was the nicest! Located right on the beach, I had a beautiful ocean view and the suite was incredible!

Upon checking we were given a welcome card AND a $50 Visa Giftcard! I couldn’t believe how amazing this all was (little did I know it was going to get better!)
The Yard
We were privileged to do our training at the Yard right off the beach. The Yard Training Center is an athletic performance facility committed to the development of movement and overall well being. While training there we met Olympic volleyball players and a couple NFL players- it was so cool to train in this place that the elite athletes go to!
The People
That first evening we had an introductory dinner on the terrace where we got to know the everyone.
The Experts
Jeff Nichols, Former Nay Seal and Exercise Physiologist
Jeff was a wealth of knowledge! On the very first day I learned why my distance running gate is so off as he discussed planes of movement. I had so many “mind blown” moments listening to him and I’ll share a bit of that knowledge with you over the course of the next posts.
Jeremy “The Troll” Subin, Professional Trainer & Owner of the Yard
Troll is one of the top fitness experts and professional trainers in the US! That would explain why the elite athletes flock to his gym! It was so cool to have him there watching us do drills and offering his expertise to improve form and execution.
Dr. John Sullivan, Clinical Sport Psychologist and Applied Sport Scientist
Dr. Sullivan knew his shit! He has worked with NBA, WNBA, ML5, EPL, the Olympics, and members of the Military Elite and SWAT. A wealth of knowledge, Dr. Sullivan would spend his meals sitting with us and answering any questions we had.

The Participants
The people I was able to participate in this training camp with were absolutely amazing and I hope at the end of these recaps that you will find them on social media or their blogs and follow them because they’re great people all around! As I mention them I’ll provide links so you can find them all easily. 🙂

The Behind the Scenes Folks
Not pictured (obviously) are the behind the scenes folks who ran the whole show. Jessy and Jamie, Tarita, Ben, Lee, and a few more folks worked while we played to make sure the event ran smoothly.
The Gear
I got back to my room to find a huge 2XU bag full of amazing gear!!! I couldn’t believe it! It was Christmas come early!
We ended the travel day with a gorgeous sunset and eager to begin!
Coming up next is a recap of Day 1- Tar & Beach Volleyball!
What a wonderful opportunity. This would be one of my dream vacations.
It was incredible! One of the coolest experiences of my life!
