Remember last week how I had an incredible day hiking in the snow in Waterton? Well I mad e a rookie winter mistake. While hiking up I got hot and I took of my toque and unzipped my coat. It felt good until a cold wind started blowing and I quickly put everything back. But by then it was too late, I caught a chill and did I ever get sick!
I came down with a killer cold, my throat was raw and my chest and head were congested. I spent two days home from work and then was so stir crazy went to work and was just miserable at work. I am on Day 8 and still coughing my guts out- I’m so mad at myself!
But while being sick I stumbled upon some helpful information that I wanted to share.
Drink Greens
Tone it Up gave a great recipe for a wellness smoothie.
- 2 oranges
- 1 cup spinach
- 1 cup kale
- 1 banana
- 1/3 cup Almond milk
I made it without the almond milk because the oranges were juicy enough to turn it into a smoothie and it was delicious! I drank one for lunch every day while I was sick.
Hot Water & lemon
I chugged hot water with lemon and honey like my life depended on it. At work I have been chugging green tea for some sort of kick to stay awake. One thing I’ve noticed? All the green tea has made my skin absolutely glow!
Dry Brushing & a Hot Bath
I don’t know if this helps with sickness but I was feeling so awful I was willing to try anything. I would dry brush starting with my legs in short strokes up to my heart and then from my arms in toward my heart. Then I fill a hot bath with Epsom salt and stayed in as long as I could letting the sweat pour off my face.
Sleep
This is a hard one for me as I am miss Go-Go-Go! But sleep, sleep, sleep will help you recover faster. In my case I was kept up by my coughing so I started popping Nyquils to knock me out.
Dress Comfy-Cute
Ok, so this may sound a little crazy but at the end of the day before my husband came home I would change into cute workout gear and run a brush through my hair. Maybe it’s because I’m still a newlywed but I figured he didn’t have to see me in three day old baggy dirty sweats and greasy hair.
