I’ve been neglecting my blog big time this semester, I even haven’t had time for my weekly Friday Fitness Recaps! Below is some of the stuff that is going on with me!
SCHOOL
The classroom portion of this semester is over and next week I begin student teaching in a Grade 5 class! This semester was a doozy but I survived, learned a TON , and made some great friends. People tell you the Education program is tough at the University of Lethbridge, but I was not expecting it to be the hardest semester of school I have ever done. It makes sense though since we want the best educating our children.
One major highlight was a Education Undergrad Society kick off event where we did the Amazing Race around the university. All the PE Majors in my section were female so we made our team #Pegals and came dressed for the part. We wound up running up/down the hill from U-Hall to Turcotte/PE building FOUR times! We ran so many stairs and were drenched in sweat. It was a great workout! Also, we won best dressed! Hell yeah!
WINTER SPORTS
Last Tuesday I tried a completely new sport, ice hockey. There’s a rec league in town and I showed up in borrowed gear, a junior stick I bought at Walmart not knowing there was a difference, and a borrowed pair of hockey skates when I have never been on hockey skates before. It was a blast! Though I could barely skate without a toe pick to push off on and no ankle support, and my tiny junior stick made trying to get the puck interesting, but it was so much fun! I was skating back and forth with a big grin on my face and the women were so nice and supportive.
Curling starts this Thursday! Ryan and I put in a team with his brother and wife so it’s a Richards team this year. I find it so funny because I had to twist Ryan’s arm to get him to curl for the first time last year and he enjoyed it so much he couldn’t wait to sign up this year!
MISSING COMPETITIVE SPORTS
NCAA DI wrestling season has begun and my little brother Ben is kicking off his last season as a collegiate wrestler. He won his home opening match with a pin and I’m so proud of him because he has worked his butt off his whole wrestling career! Ben does three workouts a day as well as classes and homework and it’s so awesome to watch him in action.
That said, it’s making me miss my competitive days. I miss elite level training and working with a team to get in the best possible shape to crush your PR’s. I have three more years left and I can start competing in Masters Track which I’m very much looking forward to.
BEAUTY (or lack thereof)
Boy am I feeling like a crocodile these days! It’s so dry now that my skin and hair is parched and my lack of extra funds is preventing me from buying products to help. I’m taking collagen and fish oil supplements, but my skin is just so dull! Any tips on affordable products I can use to help restore moisture to my body?
SPIRITUALITY
I grew up in a very traditional religious household and as soon as I turned 18 I stopped going and have shirked away from anything religious since. Lately I feel this need for spiritual fulfillment and I’ve discovered that I can find that from two things- yoga and hiking. When I am in the midst of these two activities my heart feels so full and when I’m done I feel like I radiate love and positivity. I need to fit much more hiking and yoga into my life.
That’s what’s kind of been going on with me.
What posts have you been missing?
Any tips for dry skin and hair is appreciated!
Yoga and hiking are my spiritual practices as well 🙂 If I don’t get out into the trees or near the ocean once a week I’m noticeably grumpier!
Nature is such an incredible soul charger!
